Definitely a regional curiosity, my wife and I really liked it just because it was different. It's got an air of being a long-ago McDonald's or Wendy's competitor that never learned modern marketing or social media to unlock the rabid fandom of a Five Guys or In-N-Out. It's both okay and kind of sad, because it's just as quirky as any modern spin on a burger joint, delicious and fun. The loose meat sandwich doesn't have sauce like a sloppy joe. It's in a gas station. It's a little on the sad side inside, with a worn, barely-hanging-on vibe. It's a wonderful little time capsule that more people need to experience before it's gone. A piece of Americana from before super-slabbing across the nation on homogenous Interstate (which this location is too far from). It's also so dang tasty, my wife has made burgers like this at home from time-to-time. Some yellow mustard and plenty of pickles and you're off to the races. I think Maid Rite might steam their meat, though. We get it close, but never quite like they did. I wish this place was closer to the Interstate, though I've noticed most stops between Fargo and Minneapolis are a couple miles off the 94. It's a little strange to me, and inconvenient. I can't help but think being closer to a major traffic vein would be better for business. Just know that this one is worth seeking out. I'd put Maid Rite in my third tier of burgers. 1. Smashburger 2. In-N-Out tied with Five Guys 3. Carl's Jr., Jack in the Box, Whataburger, MaidRite & old Wendy's 4. McDonald's tied with Burger King and new Wendy's 5. Hardee's 6. Culvers (awful)

I've heard about this famous place for years and I've missed it because it's at the end of a gas station with poor signage. It's unimpressive in most ways inside and out, but the Maid Rite loose meat sandwiches (not a sloppy joe) are pretty unique. Worth a try... if you can fid the place.

So Maid Rite originated in Marshaltown, Iowa. And although I'm not from that town, I am from Iowa originally where these shops are much more frequent. The store is clean compared to some of the others I've visited. It's usually more of an old-timely lunch counter and the sandwiches are a steamed loose meat made with hamburger. I've been told it's something you have to grow up with to enjoy- but I love them! Simple and delicious. I'd recommend the cheese rite and a chocolate shake! Can't go wrong.

Last time I was here as I was coming out of the restaurant a car pulled up to ours and on their way in asked if the food was good; they were passing through and needed a quick bite. I had no hesitation in saying "yeah! it's good!" Sure, it's not gourmet, and the location is not fancy. As others have mentioned you'd never find it if you're not looking for it. In fact, the restaurant is connected to a gas station. The food is fresh and made to order.. pretty good for the fast food world. The "maid-rite" sandwich is loosemeat on a bun with pickles (no sauce). I think the meat is likely cooked in beef broth and mustard. It's got a nice flavor and there's not really much else I could compare it to. The Fries are comparable to McDonalds fries, but are made to order. I've always enjoyed them. There are some other menu items such as mini corn dogs which family members have enjoyed. One final perk: free lunch delivery if you're close by. Maid Rite is a solid choice if you're picking up fast food.

Was pleasantly surprised to see the Maid-Rite sign when driving past St. Cloud on 94 Eastbound. My husband and I have always enjoyed Maid-Rite sandwiches so we took the exit. The restaurant is about 2 miles off the exit and not the easiest to find (attached to a gas station); I recommend having the address handy and using a GPS to direct you. In any case, the sandwich was great (I had the Cheese-Rite) and the service was helpful, friendly and relatively quick. Definitely a recommendation if you've never tried a loose-meat sandwich. And here is some history for you: maid-rite.com/history.php .

We were passing through and saw the MaidRite signs. I'd seen this franchise on one of the Food Channel programs and wanted to try a "loose meat" sandwich. It wasn't what I anticipated. I thought it would be on a plate, swimming in au jus. Instead we got a paper wrapped sandwich and while the meat wasn't especially dry it wasn't dripping with sauce. The fries were so so. The ladies there were nice and very helpful.

It's not a burger And it's not a Sloppy Joe What the heck is it? This review echoes much of what the other Yelpers had to say, and I did not read them beforehand. Not a whole lot to say about this place. Low three for me. Small little shop connected to a gas station with five booths and two stools. Fellow Yelper mentioned it to me as a non-chain place in the Cloud to check out next time I was up that way. The food was not what I was expecting. Went with the cheese rite combo. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill cheeseburger. It is not a cheeseburger. More like a sloppy Joe except no sauce. It is a loose meat sandwich. They give you a spoon with it for the droppings, but I didn't really lose a whole lot when scarfing it down. Comes with mustard and pickles which I liked, but might want to ask them to hold those if they are not your cup of tea. Just OK for me; I would take a couple sliders at White Castle over the offerings at Maid Rite, though. The fries were pretty standard. Nothing special for me. I would go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Burger king, Burger King, Wendy's, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, McDonald's ... OH MY GOSH, what is THAT??? Never heard of Maid-Rite before passing through Minnesota cross country, but it was a nice break from the run of the mill fast food you have to endure on the road. Think of a Maid-Rite as a loose burger, or a not-so-sloppy Sloppy Joe. It is seasoned ground beef on a bun with a variety of options for toppings (much like how you would handle the dressing of a burger). The shakes were good, as were the fries. Overall, it was nice to have something different from the monotony of the familiar major chains, and experience a local piece of flavour.

I read about Maid Rite in a library copy of a Minnesota travel book while researching for my first Minnesota trip centered around the State Fair. Since I was traveling to St. Cloud to visit friends, I decided to stop into this small stand for a hamburger, fries, and a vanilla milk shake. It is kind of an old-fashioned fast food shack that serves loose meat burgers that you end up needing a spoon for it but made for a nice change of pace from most hamburger patty places. Like having walleye on a stick at the Minnesota State Fair, a Maid Rite hamburger is both a cultural and culinary experience I had to try since I was there and I'm glad I did. The burgers, fries, and shake were all good and I was thinking, 'Thank goodness for GPS' because I never would have found this place otherwise.

I really wish we had Maid-Rite in the Twin Cities. But we don't. This location is a little on the skeezy side, but the Maid Rite (kind of like a sloppy joe with no sauce?) is still pretty tasty. I like the Pizza Rite, which comes with a little bit of pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. Simple. But yummy.

I had fond memories of this place as a kid so wanted to check it out when I saw there was this one. Not something to grab n go, as everything falls out. Wasn't as tasty as I remember, just ok.
